Shaquille O’Neal as Curator!?

Yes, you read correctly. The Cleveland Cavaliers center (who has published two memoirs, cut six records, acted in seven movies, starred in a reality show, served as a reserve police officer and studied for a doctorate in human resource development) can now add curator to his lengthy resume.

Shaquille O’Neal is curating “Size DOES Matter,” which opened last month at the Flag Art Foundation in Chelsea (NYC).

NY Magazine’s Linday Yablonsky interviewed the athlete - turned curator and here are some highlights:

On how he selected 66 works for the show Shaq states,

“Art is a process of delivering or arranging elements that appeal to the emotions of a person looking at it. It’s what you feel. I picked those things because they were beautiful…”

On visiting Museums:

Shaq says he often visited museums with his children (and then name dropped Donald Trump, stating that he used to fly on Trump’s plane and admire the 5 Picasso’s the real estate mogul keeps on board)

On whether he buys art:

The new curator says when his children grow up, he’ll buy art (for now, he’s too nervous his little ones would rip or damage art if he purchased it - they must be quite rambunctious)
